THOR: The Dark World Tips and Hints

Thor’s rivalry with his adoptive brother Loki continues in Thor: The Dark World, the second entry in the Thor franchise for the iOS and Android platforms by Gameloft Inc. This game is, of course, based on the movie of the same name, and while the previous one was strictly an action/adventure game, this one combines that genre with the mobile-friendly tower defense genre. Read on for the top ten tips and tricks for Thor: The Dark World!

10) Let your Einherjar do most of the work.
It is tempting to try and jump as far in the stage as quickly as you can and leave your Einherjar behind. However, is it a far more effective method to get behind them and let them do most of the work. In the attack stages, all that you should be doing is jumping ahead to hit switches and destroy obstacles as needed. In the defense stages, keep the number of Einherjar maximized to the highest degree possible.

9) Upgrade your Einherjar and your ally before you upgrade your hammer and armor.
In fact, don’t even bother with upgrading your armor or your hammer until you are ready to buy a brand new one of each. Buying brand new armor and hammers is far more expensive but for the attack and defense/health upgrades that you get, they provide far more bang for the buck.

8) Use your special skills as often as possible.
Your skills, including the various lightning attacks that you can use, have unlimited uses, so don’t limit your usage of them. Make sure that you get close enough that they will hit the intended targets. This is especially important if you are playing the game on a tablet rather than a phone, because the bigger screen area will cause you to be able to see more of the stage at once, which has the possibility of throwing your aim off.

7) Use your long range attack to knock out perilous switches and obstacles.
An example of this is the crystals and pillars that are blocked by fire when you are in Nidavellir. Tap using two fingers at the same time. Make sure that your intended target is right in between your two fingers. Wait for the long range attack to cool down before using it again or else any attempt to use it for a second time will end up with you running right into harm’s way.

6) When you are stuck on a stage, go back to the previous stage or stages and play them over and over to earn more runes.
You will earn almost zero runes when you lose on any stage even if you have somehow fulfilled objectives in the process. Going back to old stages and beating them will earn you far more runes especially if you play stages where you haven’t earned every possible star yet.

5) Keep checking back at your achievements tab to earn free Uru.
Uru is the premium currency of the game. Mostly, you can only get it via an in app purchase, but if you complete an achievement, go to the achievement tab at the level select screen. You will be able to collect your reward there, and you will be able to see what requirements you need to meet in order to earn any other future achievements.

4) Use the circle technique to maximize Thor’s effectiveness in battle.
Do this by placing your finger on the screen and swiping in circles, hitting each enemy every time that you go by. When your finger swipes over an enemy, Thor will dash over and hit them, so this technique will keep Thor dashing rapidly from enemy to enemy so fast that he will be almost impossible to hit, and will do huge amounts of damage to multiple enemies at once. This is especially useful on defense stages.

3) Spend ISO-8 on statistical boosts.
Buying statistical boosts with your ISO – 8 is one of the best uses of the game’s secondary currency. Boosting your attack, health, Defense, special attack, and special defense is possible with ISO – 8. These upgrades will carryover to any and all armor or hammers that you buy throughout the game, as well as any upgrades to your current armor or hammers.

2) Check the in app purchase store to see if there is an offer wall available.
Sometimes there is, but the offer wall will sometimes disappear and reappear. Whenever the offer wall becomes available, turn off the automatic upgrades on your device, because successive upgrades tend to either cause the offer wall to disappear, or if it is not already there, the offer wall will appear again.

1) Ignore the time-based stars on various stages until you are powerful enough to go back and complete them successfully.
You have three missions per stage, and each one is worth a star if you complete it. Most of these will be absolutely impossible to complete on the first try. Upgrade yourself and your Einherjar enough and then go back to the stage later on and you should be able to earn the star far more easily. If you still can’t beat the stage quickly enough to earn the star, simply continue upgrading and waiting until you are stronger.

Thor: The Dark World – The Walkthrough Guide

Attacking enemies

Tap anywhere on the screen to move Thor around, and tap on an enemy repeatedly to attack it until it is finished. By holding down two fingers on the screen, you can throw Thor’s hammer, which is useful for destroying force-fields, or hitting long-distance opponents.
Summoning Allies

Summon allies and stronger Einherjar allies using the touch screen. This is dependent on your energy level and if you are waiting on a countdown. Your energy does rebuild over time, so you should have no trouble in consistently summoning help.

General co-fighters

Your co-fighters, who tend to be foot soldiers and archers lack the strength to deal with tougher enemies, but they are good against smaller opponents.
Einherjar Soldiers

The Einherjar soldiers, who have better armor and skills can be powered up over time using rune coins. Find rune coin by destroying items in the environment or by meeting particular goals in a stage.
‘True’ Allies

True allies unlock later in the game. These are the strongest allies that Thor can call upon. They do take a little while to unlock but they are certainly worth the wait.
Thor’s four individual areas

You can boost Thor in four individual areas:
Strength

This makes Thor faster and stronger each time you raise a level.
Armor

These are new suits of armour that you can use once they are unlocked, either by collecting enough stars in the game or, if the option is available, buying.

Skills

Here, you can teach Thor new moves on the battlefield, including a collective hammer spin that can hit multiple enemies at once. It is a good idea going for this move first, as it is useful whenever you become surrounded.
Weapons

This section is mainly about hammers. They get a bit bigger in size than the basis Mjolnir model Thor begins with and even come empowered with flame, electricity and more over time.
Allies’ Stats

You can also increase the general speed and strength stats of your allies which will serve you better in the long run during later levels of the game.
Cash Shop

Unfortunately, there is no way around the game’s cash shop. At the beginning of the game you are given three general health potions, as well as a few mana potions. Eventually these do run out and once they do you will need to use Uru stones to buy new potions. The game sadly does not let you purchase stones with in-game currency and so a $1.00 should buy you enough to get a new health potion, but you may have to buy more.

If you do not like paying for extras then you can also restart a level without paying any money, but once Thor runs out of energy he is out of luck, since you cannot restore it.
