Beginner’s Tips

With this in mind, get the most from FIFA 14 with these beginner’s tips that’ll get you off the bench and into the game.

FIFA 14 Beginner's Tips

Reaching the Back of the Net

EA Sports transformed scoring in FIFA 14 with the all-new Pure Shot and Real Ball Physics that make shooting the ball more realistic and satisfying.  The ball can dip, dive, curve, rise and misfire depending how you strike it, either alone with a free shot on goal, or with a defender pulling on your jersey.

FIFA 14 Beginner's Tips

First thing you must learn is how hard to hit the ball to have your shot stay on target.  Similar to previous FIFAs, there is a power meter for shots.  Tap the shoot button (B/Circle) and the ball will roll towards the goalie. Hold it down too long and you might end up hitting someone in the face on the second tier balcony.  The power meter is on a hair trigger as well, so practice makes perfect.  Mastering the force put on the ball is key to getting good scoring chances.

You use the left stick to aim your shot while powering up to take the kick.  As soon as you start powering up your shot, use the left stick to aim high or low, and what corner you want the ball to go towards.  Hopefully it beats the keeper, but not the net.

Passing is Key

Passing the ball has always been a very important component of FIFA, this year more than ever.  Unlike previous installments of the franchise, passing is the hardest it has ever been, thanks to revamped Teammate Intelligence. Defenders swarm as soon as the ball leaves your foot.  The guy on the receiving end will try to get the ball, but two defenders will do the same.

FIFA 14 Beginner's Tips

Passing works the same as shooting with the power meter.  Tap the pass button to perform a short pass to a close teammate, or hold it to send the ball to a teammate farther down the pitch. Survey the field and choose your passes wisely.  One wrong pass could have you going from a scoring drive to quickly sprinting back on defense.

After going over how dangerous a bad pass can be, we’ll stress how important passing is.  A good passing game will win and lose matches.  You won’t be able to take one guy and run down the entire field dipping and dodging every defender for a glorious goal (yet).  Passing is the glue that holds a winning team together, and we need your middle name to be Elmer.

Advance Player Tips

If you’re a newcomer or even a golden boot master in need of some practice, beginner’s tips will get you accustomed to the game’s basic elements. Once you get comfortable with that, you’re ready for these FIFA 14 advanced tips.

FIFA 14 Advanced Tips

He Shoots, He Scores

You can’t win unless you score, and you can’t score unless you shoot. There are many different ways to take a crack at the goal. Just pulling back and letting it rip is one way, but they pay goalies tons of money for a reason. You might have to utilize technical shooting to beat the keeper.

Two words: finesse shot.  Say it out loud and remember it. This is an amazing shot to use to put points on the board.  If you ever wanted to bend it like Beckham, this is how it’s done. To take a finesse shot, hold down RB/R1 while powering up the shot. You have to aim where you want the ball to go with this shot, just like normal, but this will give you a good curve that helps squeeze the ball into the net, just out of the keeper’s reach.

FIFA 14 Advanced Tips

The only downside is that you’ll sacrifice power for superior placement. With this in mind, get a good feel for how hard you hit a finesse kick compared to a normal kick on the power meter.

Another strike you should add to your kicking repertoire is the lob shot. The lob shot is the proverbial sand wedge of soccer.  This propels the ball into the air like a chip shot. To perform a lob shot, press and hold the LB/L1 button while powering up your kick. This is a great shot to use if the goalie is off his line attacking you, or if there is only one defender in the way. There is no better feeling than chipping the ball over a goalie’s head and have it float into the net.

Finally, we have the one time shot. A well-performed one timer forces the defense to realign, but also looks awesome and gives you plenty of ammunition to trash talk your opponent. To pull off a one timer, all you have to do is press the kick button the moment the ball reaches your feet, be it from a ground or aerial pass. If your player’s stats are high enough, hold down LT/L2 while kicking and you might pull off a scissor kick for this shot.

Advanced Passing

If you read the beginner’s guide, you know EA Sports made passing the ball in FIFA 14 more challenging. Luckily for us, FIFA comes equipped with a variety of passes to help you get out of any situation.

FIFA 14 Advanced Tips

The through pass is a pass every player needs to have up his or her sleeve. This is a great way to get out on a breakaway and beat the back line. A through pass aims to a spot ahead of the player you are passing to so he can get to it in mid stride. Not passing directly to a player is risky, so practice this one. It is a high risk, high reward pass. To perform a through pass, press Y/Triangle, and again, the power meter comes into play.

While discussing the through pass, there is a highflying variation called the lifted/lobbed through pass. This is the same type of pass, but in the air and over the heads of defenders. To perform this pass, hold down LB/L1 and then hit Y/Triangle. This type of pass is very effective if you catch a quick forward on a break that beat the offside call.

The last pass we will mention is the give and go. To perform a give and go, hold LB/L1 while pressing A/Cross. The give and go is the best way to try and get a defender off of your back and you into the open. A give and go is where you pass the ball to a teammate, and before the ball even gets to him, you start sprinting down field, so as soon as it hits your teammate’s feet he is passing it right back to you. This quick tap/tap pass is very effective, and a must for upper echelon players.

Control Tips

Struggling to get to grips with the basics in FIFA 14? Here’s the guide to staying on top of the ball.

FIFA 14 Controls Tips

– To clear the ball out of danger, or simply take a goal-kick and send the ball down the pitch, make a big swipe while in your own half. If a teammate is within range and position of the player who’s making the shot, they’ll attempt to pass the ball in their direction.

– Once you’ve mastered the basics of the game, you’ll want to look into faking some shots to keep your opponents on their toes. When you’re in the box, swipe left or right of the player to add a dummy effect to your play.

FIFA 14 Controls Tips

– If you want a player to break away from the pack, and gain a little more open space for themselves, hold down on the player and then drag them into the position you want them to move towards. This is a great way of building up attacking moves, and should be mastered as soon as you’ve nailed the basics.

– If you want to bring your goalkeeper into play in a one-on-one situation, hold down on the goalie and then drag towards the attacker. Note that this is a very risky strategy, as the striker may simply chip over your goalkeeper to score.

FIFA 14: Manager management

FIFA 14: Manager management

The trickiest part of football management life you’ll have to deal with in FIFA 14 is negotiating new players for your squad. Need some help with player statuses? Here’s a complete, at-a-glance breakdown of what each player status means.

FIFA 14 :Top 10 clubs

10.) Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)

PSG is a French club that over the past year or so has become a well-respected team in the game.  Even though David Beckham retired and no longer plays for them, they still have powerhouse striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Being a monstrous 6’5”, this man feeds on crosses into the box.

9.) Borussia Dortmund

Although none of their players are standalone superstars, this team is very well rounded. They play for the German Bundesliga. Their team chemistry in FIFA is very high, so the back and forth play meshes well.

8.) Chelsea

The Blues are an amazing soccer club. They are one of the best teams in the English Premier League (EPL). Their line up is nothing but all-stars, with a striker up front like Fernando Torres and a brick wall goalie in the back with Cech. If you can’t win with these guys, you should hit the training grounds.

7.) Juventus

Juventus is a quick-paced Italian club team that plays for Serie A. They are a great team to pick if you want to try and get fancy with the ball. Not only do the players possess fancy footwork, but they can also drill the ball. This may or may not help your choice in picking them, but their pink and black alternate jersey is definitely our favorite in the game.

6.) A.C. Milan

A.C. Milan is also an Italian club team in the Serie A league. They are a very well rounded team that has a little bit of everything.  They are quick and can shoot. A team tactic would be to utilize Walcott and Podolski. They work well together and can score goals at any range.

5.) Manchester City

Man City is in the EPL, a great squad with names like Kompany, Clichy, Toure and Silva. There are more stars on this team than you’ll be able to handle. There is no real secret playing with City. They make it easy for you.

4.) Manchester United

Another great EPL team is Man U, a very close neighbor and Derby counterpart to Man City. Man U is capable of putting on a soccer clinic. The team is comprised of all stars in the footy world. Basically all you need to know is your goal scorers are Rooney and Van Persie.  Get those two the ball, all the time.

3.) Real Madrid

Real Madrid is third on our list and earned every bit of it. Madrid is a Spanish club team that plays in the La Liga. Not only are they fast, but also have amazing ball control and footwork, and can score from practically anywhere. This is a team you will see on Xbox Live/PSN a lot.  Their best striker is Cristiano Ronaldo. If he touches the ball you are likely going to score.

2.) Bayern Munich

FC Bayern Munich is a German club that plays in the Bundesliga. They are a stronger team that is harder to knock to the ground, so play rough with these guys. You might get called with a foul or two, but men play this sport, not kids. Give the other team some black and blues along with their defeat.

1.) Barcelona

FC Barcelona (La Liga) is hands down the best team to be in FIFA 14. They are the epitome of a team that “has it all.”  Speed, ball skill, shooting, defense. It is all there. They also have Lionel Messi on their squad, who is considered to be the greatest player in the game today.  He is the first player in history to win three golden boot awards.  On top of that, Barca just picked up young superstar Neymar, a young Brazilin player who is thought to be the next Messi.

FIFA 14: Unlimited Coins

a. Make some coins cash through the transfer of the players

In order to make a nice pile of cash in FIFA 14, just play with the pretty weak teams as they can easily be taken down with some clever footwork. Afterward, concentrate on passing the ball back, forth and around as quickly as possible, and towards players in open space.

Doing that action will throw the AI into enough confusion that you will do a clear shot on goal very quickly then repeat to take home the early honors.

In addition, in the way of making money in FIFA 14, you can sell your unneeded player to the other team in for sale area

b. Strategy to play every match with other team

Playing FIFA 14 will be the same as playing the real football, as you will play fairly in order to avoid a yellow or a red card in the game.

FIFA 14 Cheats & Tips: Get More Coins and Points

In the field, you can place your player ahead of the ball-carrier in a better position, or switch with a tap to a player ahead and bring them forward for a precision tackle. Make your player sprint along the pitch by holding down anywhere on the screen, and move your finger gently up and down the screen to shift direction.

Be sure not to just pass directly to a player but consider tapping just ahead of the recipients so that they run into space and get ahead of any opposing players who might be jostling their way into position.

To win the match, try making a precision shot for having goal scores. So just aim a straight and consider precision shot with average power into the corners to fox the average AI goalkeeper.

Game Introduction – FIFA 14

FIFA 14 is a free-to-play soccer game created by EA Sports. In it, you’ll build a team from scratch, play through various leagues, and compete online against other players. Gamezebo’s quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.

Quick Start Guide

Getting Started

  • FIFA 14 is free to play and can be downloaded by clicking the “Play Now!” option at the top of this page.
  • When you first start the game, you’ll be given the option to select your favorite team. This is only noticeably relevant for the tutorial match.
  • After selecting the team, you’ll be brought to your first match, which acts as a tutorial for the controls on the field.

FIFA 14

On the Field

  • There are two control schemes in FIFA 14. The classic scheme is a simple layout of a virtual analog stick on the left side and on-screen buttons on the right. The necessary buttons, such as “pass” and “shoot” are present. If you’re very familiar with the console controls and didn’t care for the touch controls demonstrated in the tutorial match, this may be the layout for you.

FIFA 14

  • The touch controls add a bit more control to the experience. The offensive controls are pretty straightforward. When a player has the ball, he can pass to others by tapping on the intended target. You can take a shot at the goal by swiping the intended path; this allows for curves and other shot variants. Tapping the man with the ball allows him to sprint, while tapping and holding him will allow you to control his precise movement.
  • Defensive controls are as straightforward as the offense. Switching between players is as simple as tapping on the intended player, though the game will switch automatically if the play moves away from you. Tapping the man with the ball will make your player more aggressive when up close. Swiping the screen will cause your player to slide in that route. Like offense, you can tap and hold in order to control a player’s path.

FIFA 14

  • There are a variety of on-the-field settings that can be adjusted, as well.  You can change the length of a half from anywhere between two and ten minutes. Injuries and certain fouls (like offsides and handballs) can be toggled. There are also five difficulty levels available.

FIFA 14

Building Your Ultimate Team

  • While classic FIFAmodes like Kick Off, Tournament, and Manager Mode are present in FIFA 14, they must be unlocked by buying the Premium Pack. Those who are simply into the free experience will be happy to know EA’s famous “Ultimate Team” mode is alive and kicking.

FIFA 14

  • When you first start Ultimate Team, you’ll be prompted to choose your captain. This decision doesn’t make a huge difference, as you’ll soon be building the team to your liking.
  • After you choose, you’ll be given your team and your first pack of cards. Cards are the life blood of Ultimate Team. Every pack contains players, contracts, stat increasers, coaches, and visual modifiers such as balls, jerseys, and stadiums.  All of these will be utilized in different ways to make your team into championship material.

FIFA 14

  • Managing your eleven starters is the key to success. The shoe meter on the player card demonstrates how good a fit he is to the placed position. The lines connecting players represents chemistry between the two. Even if it means playing slightly weaker players, the improvements from high compatibility and chemistry is often worth it. Find the formation and lineup that works best for you.

FIFA 14

  • Once your team and reserves are set, you can apply consumables. These range from contracts allowing players to play more, to training sessions that raise their stats. Setting coaches is another way to get players at the top of their game.

FIFA 14

  • When you’re ready to go, you can join a league. The harder the league, the higher the reward. Except for skilled players, it’ll usually be smarter to start in the weaker leagues, earn gold from winning matches, and move on up.

FIFA 14

  • With the gold you earn from winning matches and completing achievements, you can buy new packs of cards. There are three tiers of packs (bronze, silver, gold) and the higher the tier, the better the players and perks. Deciding between buying a ton of bronze cards or a single pack of gold cards after a long season can be a tough choice. Alternatively, you can purchase packs via in-app purchase.

FIFA 14

Tips and Tricks

  • You need to have an EA Origin account to play online or in Ultimate Team.
  • If you pull off an awesome play, you can upload your replay to Facebook and/or YouTube. There’s no replay editor, however.

FIFA 14

  • Sometimes, it’s better to just kick the ball out of bounds and let your team regroup than to risk the opponent getting control and landing a shot on the goal. The same could be said for just blasting the ball downfield.
  • Unlike many mobile games, online play is with another live opponent. This mode uses real-life teams, opposed to your ultimate team. With that in mind, be sure to set aside enough time to connect and play the game so you can avoid having to disconnect mid-match.

FIFA 14

  • You can change uniforms, stadiums, and balls for your ultimate team. These changes don’t directly affect the gameplay.
  • Any cards you don’t want (whether it’s players, cosmetics, or consumables) can be sold for a small amount of gold when you’re going through your cards. Single-digit gold for bronze cards doesn’t seem like much, but it adds up quickly. Don’t be a hoarder.

FIFA 14

  • Take the time to learn the touch controls. They’ll seem a little weird at first. The reason to stick with them is that they offer a better sense of control than the classic scheme.

Congratulations!
