Clash of Clans Hints

makemoney

Hints

  • Join a Clan – Once the clan castle is rebuilt you can officially join a clan and battle to win more goodies against other users.
  • More Clan People – In order to invite your Facebook or Game Center friends, your friend must first play Clash of Clans, connect to Game Center or Facebook with their account and have rebuilt their Clan Castle. After this, you can see your friend in the Friends menu, where you can tap their name and choose Invite from the context menu. Inviting from global chat works in a similar way: tap a player’s message, and choose Invite from the context menu.

    • Shield – The Shield prevents other people from attacking you for a period of time. You lose the shield when the time runs out, or when you attack another player. When your village is destroyed by an enemy attack, you automatically get a new shield for 12 hours. You can also purchase longer lasting shields from the shop. Also keep in mind that if you do not have an active shield and you exit the game, your village will be vulnerable to attacks from other players. The attacking player will be able to steal some of your resources, but never all of them. You can protect your village with defensive buildings, walls and traps, or by buying a new shield form the shop. Terrain obstacles and the edge of the map do not stop attacking units!
    • Smart Building – When you build your village, build all your structures close together. It gives you an edge in defending your villages. If your village is compact, your turrets will be able to defend more buildings at once. Check out our Defensive Strategy Guide for more tips.

  • Move and Make – One of the coolest features in this game is the ability move buildings, thus re-arranging your vilage, after you have made it. Use it make the best possible defense for your village.
  • Gems – Save your gems for important purchases. Early on it will be tempting to use gems left and right to hurry up the process of building and training. This only gets “worse” over time as things take longer and longer to complete. The game is designed to play on your impatience and get you to buy more gems (with real money). While you can get more gems by clearing your area (trees, rocks, etc.), it’s only a few at a time. Hang on to your gems. Also, check out our guide on how to get more gems.
  • Quick tips on gaming: Set up a mortar for really effective firepower – it packs a massive punch.
  • A really highly upgraded cannon is a deadly thing, but make sure you keep it protected from aerial attacks with a tower.
  • Don’t bother waiting for troops to destroy walls – blow them up instead. It’s quicker and you won’t waste unnecessary numbers of troops doing so.
  • You can always help yourself wih in-app buy.

Unlimited GEMS

makemoney

Gems are precious in the game. There are a few ways to get additional gems.

Clear the Field

When you remove obstacles like trees, rocks, and bushes from your field, you will occassionally find gems under those items.

Achievements

Hitting certain milestones in the game will reward you with additional gems. A few examples are building bigger gold coffers, unlocking dragons, blowing up walls and builder’s huts. You can see a list of achievements by clicking the girl’s face in the upper left of the screen.

  • Nice and Tidy – One example is clearing the field (mentioned above) will both net you more gems in the process as well as get you a mass reward when you hit certain milestone counts (e.g., clearing 500 will get you 20 gems.)
  • Sweet Victory! – If you win 1250 trophies in multiplayer battles, you’ll get 450 gems. Add that to another 50 you get/keep on your own and you can afford a 3rd builder.

Buy Them

Obviously, this is how SuperCell makes its money. These are the in-app purchases that keeps this game at the top of the charts. While some people are adamantly opposed to micro-transactions, if this FREE game gives you a reasonable amount of fun, why not give $5 to the developer to keep it going and you get a little boost in the game. Also, if you’re one that can’t stay away from buying gems, go ahead and make a bigger purchase upfront as the per gem cost is cheaper. Lots of players will buy them $5 at a time instead of just bitting the bullet and getting more value.

  • 500 gems = $4.99
  • 1200 gems = $9.99
  • 2500 gems = $19.99
  • 6500 gems = $49.99
  • 14000 gems = $99.99

Defense strategy of Clash of Clans

makemoney

Beginner’s Defense Guide

  • First Timers Don’t worry, your buildings will come back. You don’t have to worry about actually losing anything structural – only gold and elixir. When you log back onto the game, you’ll see that you’ve been attacked, lots of buildings will be in ruin, and in about 20 seconds, they will have “powered back up” and you’re off and running again.
  • Watch your grid – After you place an item on the screen, you’ll see a highlighted area around your village. This is an area the enemy cannot start within so be sure you don’t leave any holes by placing structures too far apart.
  • The edge won’t save you – Buidling your village close the edge of the screen doesn’t stop attackers from starting in the surrounding green area. You still have to defend from all directions.
  • Huddle – Build your village close together to take advantage of keeping all things under protection of your weapons. Ensure that you have different types of weapons covering each other in case you’re attacked from the ground or the air (e.g., canon = ground, air defense = air, and archers = both.)

Intermediate Guide

  • Power in numbers – Once you’ve rebuilt your clan castle and joined a clan, be sure to fill it by requesting troop donations before you log off. While soilders in your army camps are only good for attacking, the troops in the clan castle can also defend your village. When you select the clan castle, you’ll see a threshold radius appear (much like with other weapons) that shows you when those troops will be deployed. Take advantage of the extra troops for defense. It’s one of the big benefits in being in a good clan.
  • Sacrafice the Town Hall – If you’ve already got your third builder and you’re not part of one of the top clans, you’re probably not that concerned with trophies and are more interested in farming for gold and elixir. By placing the Town Hall outside of your walls you’ll make it enticing for attackers to go after it. When they destroy it, it will give them an automatic victory with one star. It will also give you an automatic shield. Your goal here is to protect the gold and elixir storage and not worry about wins and losses. Once you’ve built a killer base, you can worry about going for the trophies.
  • 40% destroyed is 100% good – Place non gold and elixir holding (storage, mines, and pumps) outside your walls to allow them to be destroyed. Much like destroying the Town Hall, if the attacker destroys 40% of your buildings, you’ll get a longer shield without actually giving up any resources.

Pro Tips

makemoney

  • Train your next army – Before you log off, fill up your army camps with an attacking army. The game used to kill those troops if the base was destroyed during an attack but now they will all survive the attack. You might as well invest as much elixir into a usable set of troops as you can.
  • Stock up – Also, once your camps are full, train as many wallbreakers as you can in each barrack. While they’re not the most expensive, they are the most expensive per housing space (i.e., level 5 wallbreaker = 3,000 for 1 housing space so 3k/space and a level 3 P.E.K.K.A = 50,000 for 25 housing spaces, so 2k/space.) This will take elixir out of play for raiding armies who can only go after your pumps and storage. You can untrain them when you return to get the borrowed elixir back in your storages to spend elsewhere.
